Overview

An alternative route to the well beaten trek to Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Trek offers the trekkers insight into local village life, impressive views of icy rivers and stony glacier debris, snow-capped mountains, and of course the dazzling turquoise waters of Gokyo Lakes themselves. The Gokyo Lakes are actually made up of six bodies of water, or lakes, located at an altitude of 4,700 to 5,000m in the Gokyo Valley. Gokyo Valley falls within the Sagarmatha National Park area. The trek provides the trekker with plenty of stunning views of Everest as well as overnight stays in the iconic town of Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the Khumbu Region.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our guide/representative will receive you at the airport and transfer you to hotel and assist you to check in at hotel. Later on, discuss and preparation for trek start next day.

After early breakfast transfer to domestic airport and fly to Lukla (approx. 45 min.)

After landing in Lukla, (2800m) you’ll start trek to Phakding (approx. 3 hrs.)along with Dudh koshi river. Overnight at Phakding (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

 

Next day, your uphill trek will start to Namche bazaar (approx. 6 hrs.) along with Dudh Koshi river through natural Rhododendron forest and on clear weather, this day offers you a first view of Mt. Everest, (8848m) from place called Top Danda. Namche bazar is a large Sherpa village and a gate way to Khumbu Himalayan region and Everest base camp. *Overnight at Namche bazaar (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Today we will walk to Syangboche (Approx. 1.30 hrs.) with excellent view Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Kwangde and views of Namche bazaar down below. Syangboche at altitude of 3780m offers excellent view of Himalayas including Mt. Everest (8848m), Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku etc. Afternoon hike around Khumjung village, a large Sherpa village approx. 30 min. walk from Syangboche and back to Namche. *Overnight at Namche. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

You will trek approx. 6 hrs. to Tengboche passing Kyangjuma, Sanasa, Phunki Tenga and crossing Dudh Koshi river through Rhododendron and pine forest with majestic view of the Himalayas. After arriving at Tengboche, you’ll visit and explore famous Tengboche Monastery. Enjoy Excellent view of Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Kwangde, Mt. Tawache, Mt. Ama Dablam including Mt. Everest.

Today you’ll trek approx. 5 hrs. to Dingboche through Rhododendron and pine forest, passing village called Debuche and crossing bridge over Imja river. The trail ascends to Pangboche and Somare villages after crossing Lobuche river. As we enter Imja valley and Dingboche, gateway to Chhukung and Island peak also known as Imja peak, you’ll view beautiful Mt. Ama Dablam.

After breakfast hike to Chhukung village or climb Chhukung Ri, approx. 4500m to enjoy view of Mt. Makalu and Mt. Ama Dablam. You are advised to return to Dingboche before 3 PM due to strong wind

Another 5 hrs. trek passing Dughla, where you will stop for lunch, you’ll reach Lobuche. The Dughla trail is uphill trail where in you’ll cross bridge over the crystal water from the Khumbu glacier with a view of Mt. Tawache and Mt. Pumori in the foreground. After crossing Dughla pass, you’ll come across many monuments dedicated to the climbers who died during the expedition. *Overnight at Lobuche (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Today you’ll trek approx. 4 hrs. to Gorakshep, a last tea house for the Everest Base Camp, and one of the highest places of permanent human settlement and last human settlement in this route. Trail goes up and down along the ridge of the Khumbu glacier and view of Mt. Pumori follows on the foreground. After lunch at Gorakshep, you will trek approx. 2hrs to Everest Base Camp (5360m to explore Khumbu Ie fall, Khumbu Glacier and enjoy wonderful view of surrounding mountain including Mt. Nuptse etc. Before dark you will head back to Gorakshep. *Overnight at Gorakshep (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

 

Early morning before sunrise, you will climb approx. 2 hrs. to Kalapathar “Black rock” view point and enjoy sunrise with panoramic view of surrounding Himalayas Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam including world highest mountain Mt. Everest (8848m). After enjoying excellent view of the Himalayas you’ll head back to Gorakshep. After breakfast at Gorakshep you’ll trek down approx. 6 hrs. to Pheriche via Lobuche and Doghla.

After breakfast  you’ll trek back approx. 5 hrs. to Tengboche through Rhododendron and pine forest via Pangboche and Somare villages.

After breakfast approx. 4 hrs. trek back to Phakding.

After breakfast fly back to Kathmandu (45 min. flight). Where after you’ll be transferred to your Hotel. *Overnight at Kathmandu (Breakfast)

Kathmandu Durbar Square: Kathmandu is cluster of ancient temples, palaces, courtyards and streets that date back to the 12th and 18th centuries. Hanuman Dhoka is the former Royal Palace, an ancient seat of the Nepalese Royalty. The entire Palace here is named after a monkey god called ‘Hanuman’. One can see a huge stone statue of Hanuman painted all red right next to the main entrance (the golden gate) of the palace. Hanuman here is regarded as a powerful protector of the entire Durbar Square. The visit of Durbar Square includes the temple of Living Goddesses Kumari, she acknowledges the greetings of the devotees from the balcony of her temple residence.

 

The magnificent Taleju Temple, Shiva Pārbati Temple, Kala Bhairav, Maju Dega are the other major attraction. The capital takes its name from the giant pagoda of Kasthamandap, which is said to have been built of a single tree. The Kasthamandap was destroyed in 2015 earthquake and is currently being reconstructed.

 

Swayambunath: Swayambhunath is one of the most important religious and cultural sites in Nepal and is associated with the birth of the Kathmandu Valley civilization. It is perched on a hilltop on the southwestern part of Kathmandu and seen from most part of the city. Approximately 2000 years old Swayambhunath stupa, is a dome, 20 meters in diameter and 32 meters high and is made of brick and earth mounted by a conical spire capped by a pinnacle of copper gilt. This place is religiously important for both Hindus and Buddhists.

 

Bhaktapur: Bhaktapur is also known as Bhadgaun. Bhaktapur is located in the east of Kathmandu and in reality, is a medieval city where the Newars, the main inhabitants still follow age old traditions and customs. This city is extraordinarily beautiful because of its ancient architecture of pagoda style copper roofs on wooden and mud-brick buildings, Durbar Square and its Golden Gate, Palace of 55 Windows, five storied Nyatapola Temple, Kashi Biswanath Temple, Dattatreya Temple. One can also observe local artisans shaping pottery where the local potters use age old techniques to make clay utensils.
